Lateral Officers

In State Lateral:
Must have been certified with APSC as a Police Officer within the last 5 years to be eligible.

Out of State Lateral:
Lateral Police Officers from outside Alaska, must have successfully completed a state certified training academy, have at least 650 hours of classroom and practical training for police officers, must have at least one year of experience from a full-service law enforcement agency, and must be now or have been certified within 5 years as a police officer in their jurisdiction to be considered for a lateral position with the Anchorage Police Department.

Starting salary:  $34.11 hourly (additional pay provided for prior years of service)

In State Lateral Pay Increases

In State LATERAL APSC HIRE PAY SCALE STEP INCREASES:

Pay incentive for a in-state lateral police officer will be at a higher step based on time in service. The initial pay incentive will be capped 4+ years time of service award, at Grade 35, Step 6, which is $41.48 per hour. Additional step increases will occur following probation and annually thereafter until the maximum step 9 is reached. For detailed step increases, refer to the IN-STATE LATERAL HIRE PAY SCALE STEP INCREASES chart below:

Step 1 – Hire $34.11
Step 2 – 180 days (6 months) $34.96
Step 3 – 477 days (1 year 4 months) $35.82
Step 4 – 2 years 4 months – Annual Step Increases per the APDEA CBA
Step 5 – 3 years 4 months – Annual Step Increases per the APDEA CBA
Step 6 – 4 years 4 months – Annual Step Increases per the APDEA CBA

#2) 6 months to 1 year and 4 months of experience
Step 1 – Hire $34.11
Step 2 – 2 weeks $34.96
Step 3 – 477 days (1 year 4 months) $35.82
Step 4 – 2 years 4 months – Annual Step Increases per the APDEA CBA
Step 5 – 3 years 4 months – Annual Step Increases per the APDEA CBA
Step 6 – 4 years 4 months – Annual Step Increases per the APDEA CBA

#3) 1 year 4 months to less than 2 years 4 months experience

Out of State Lateral Pay Increases

OUT OF STATE LATERAL HIRE PAY SCALE STEP INCREASES:

Pay incentive for a out-state lateral police officer will be at a higher step based on time in service. The initial pay incentive will be capped at 4+ years time of service award, at Grade 35, Step 6, which is $41.48 per hour. Additional step increases will occur following probation and annually thereafter until the maximum step 9 is reached. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Applicant must be a citizen of the United States or a United States National by the time of hire
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Associates Degree or higher preferred
  • Must be 21 years of age by the date of hire
  • Must possess a valid State of Alaska Driver’s license by the time of hire
  • Must meet standards established by the Alaska Police Standards Council (APSC). For more information about APSC certification, go to http://dps.alaska.gov/apsc/ and the Anchorage Police Department regarding misdemeanor or felony convictions and use of controlled substances.
  • No felony convictions after reaching 18 years of age
  • No marijuana use within the past one year
